Travelling Folk
There are three classes of these namely, tinkers, beggars and (gyps) gipsies. These visit my home very often, The same families of "travelling people" have visited my home for many years. Tinkers are never poor and nor are gipsies because they have means of making money such as making cans and selling them. Beggars are very poor and nobody refuses anything they ask for. Gipsies sell small articles such as small tables, chairs, baskets, mats and rugs. People often buy these things from them. They make all these themselves. They make the baskets out of sallow rods. Some of these "travellers" are sometimes welcome especially sweeps because shopkeepers want them to sweep chimneys. When they come near a town they often stay for a week. During this time they sleep in vans on the roadside. Sometimes they do not bring any food with them but they beg it from house to house.
