- Long ago people had very slow modes of travelling. The people of Cork County had to take their commodities on their backs and other took them (on their) by cart.
One instance is of a woman from Coppeen who used to walk to Cork city with a basket of eggs on her back and on her way she used to be knitting a stocking. Another story is told of a local (forge) jobber who used to walk from Hornhill to Bantry fair a distance of forty miles approximately.
As regards the food the people are it was far superior to the present day food. They are potatoes and sour milk three times a day and only on very rare occasions was a person known to have sickness or disease. In later years they got indian meal from which was made "gruel". The people ate this twice daily but in the evening they had bread and milk.
