- This is the season of the year when the wild birds again renew their cheerful songs after their long silence all through the Winter. The wild birds which we see in this district are the robin, lark, blackbird, thrush, swallow and many others.
This is the part of the year when they build their nests also. They generally make their nests in the fences or on the tree-tops, but some kinds of birds build their nests in eaves of houses or in holes in the wall. Swallows and blackbirds do this.
The weather can be judged by the behaviour of certain birds. They say that it is a sign of good weather to see crows collecting in large numbers together, but that it is a sign of rain to see them flying down straight to the ground.
They say that it is also a sign of good weather to see swallows early in the year, but that it is a sign of rain to see sea-gulls flying inland, or to hear curlews roundabout us.- Bailitheoir
