    Local Cures.
I was told by my Teacher to ask my mother for some Local Cures. My mother's name is. Mrs Dempsey. She lives in Barrymore about half a mile from Ballybay School. She gave me the following cures.
For the Whooping Cough. The Godmother should buy a red tape and tie it round the child's neck and it would cure.
For the Chin Cough. Anything a man with a white house says cures it.
Pain in the Back. Any child that is born after the father dies has a cure for a pain in the back.
For a pain in the head. Run three times round a bush and tie a red ribbon on the bush and then on the head and call the fairies. Certain people had the cures.
For warts. Rain water in a hole in a rock if you are not looking for it.
Ringworm. The seventh son has the cure.
Yellow Jaundice. Boil a dandelion and drink its water.
For the Skin Disease. Sulphur and unsalted Butter.
