- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)No one would give a light of the house May morning for fear of giving away the good of the milk or the luck of the year.
A donkey is supposed to be kept on every farm to bring luck & the animal has a good time for many years.
It is most unlucky to meet a foxey woman as the first person on May morning. A dark man is supposed to be a sign of luck.
In every place I have been “the meeting the foxey woman the first person on May morn" is luckey.
There is a man John Harris in the next townland who is now 78 years & is drawing the O.A Pension for 8 years who has been in bed 52 years. The last person who met him outside his house is still alive & tells how over 50 years ago. He was going to work in a house in the lane near Harris’ house about 6 OClock on a May morning The carpenter saw Harris walking before him & turning into his own yard. The both stopped & bid each other the “time of day” Harris said I’m going back into bed now. I met a foxey woman above in the lane & I’ll never have any luck now So he did go to bed & never left it since(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
