    Shrove was the marriage period in years gone by.

    Shrove was the marriage period in years gone by.
    Some days were always looked upon as being unlucky such as Monday. Wednesday and Friday and also the months of the year an old saying says.
    If married in May you will rue the day
    Married in Lent you will live to repent
    Married in sickle and scythe will never thrive which means harvest time. Another old saying says " What's tied in the harvest is cut in the spring" which means a death in one of the party.
    About eighty years ago people were married in their homes and those who were married in the church rode home on horse back with their husbands. Common Cars at that time were the height of fashion and a red quilt as a rug.
    The bride chose her own colour.
    White = Married all right.
    Blue = Sure to be true.
    Green = Fit to be seen.
    Red = You would wish you would wish you
