   at the top of it. Then there was the dresser and timber seats sugan chairs and tables. There was always a bed in the kitchen. It was called a settle pitch bed. The hob was usually made of mud sometimes of mortar and it used to be white washed.
   Half doors were used in the old houses outside the full door. For lights they had dips, those were made from peeled rushes dipped in melted rushes tallow. Their chimneys were made of mud or wood and were rather low. The old houses and trampled mud floors and they were swept with heather brooms. If they were short of seats some of the young members of the family would sit on straw bosses. For firing they had logs of wood and turf.
