- We always sow on our farm a half acre of potatoes yearly. My father prepares the ground. There is artificial manure put on it before being turned up. The potatoes are sown in drills, after the soil is ploughed and harrowed. The drills are made with the drill plough.
When the seed is ready it is put down between the drill about a foot between each seed potato. Then the drill-plough is got again and the drills are closed. The plough is always used on our farm Long ago the people used wooden ploughs but they have not been used for some years.
Spades and these implements are bought in a shop. The seed is prepared in this way. The potato is cut in two or three pieces each piece having an eye out of which the future plant will come. These pieces are called Fealláin.
The people help each other in the sowing of the potatoes if help is required They are earthed after six or eight weeks. In mid-summer they are sprayed. In the Autumn, the potatoes are picked and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
