- People usually reached manhood long ago before they wore boots. I knew a person who never wore boots or shoes. Very few children go barefooted at the present day in the summer.
It is said that water after washing feet should never be kept inside at night, and if by mistake it was forgotten, there should be a red cinder dropped into it. The reason for this custom was to prevent the fairies coming around the house.
There was a couple of shoemakers in the district long ago one lived in Farrahy and the other in Kildorrery. The Kildorrery shoemakers have carried on the trade for generations. They were more numerous long ago than now.
