- The flour long ago was brown as it was only roughly milled. This bread was made from wheat corn and oats which was grown locally. The flour was made in the place.
The people used grinding stones. These grinding stones were round stones with a hole in the centre. Two of them were used. There was one of these stones on top and the other underneath. There was a handle on the top of one, then the grain was put into the hole and then the handle was twisted each stone meeting the other and so ground the grain.
