Bone fire night falls on the 34th of June. On that night, the children have great fun gathering fuel for the bone-fire.
When the fire is lighted the children jump over it three times and make the Sign of the Cross over it with the weed called mugworth.
This weed was always held in great esteem by the old people, and they thought that a bone-fire without it was no good.
The old people used to drive the cattle through the bone-fire so that they would have god luck for the year.Written by Michael O'Leary, Newtown, Ballynoe, Tallow, County Waterford.
