Stowell employed as many as 60 workmen on his estate in Gurrane from 6AM to 6PM.
He died from poisoning, how administered is unknown. Tradition says that his maid (a Catholic) secured his keys and took £500 Rent money from the safe, later throwing away the keys.
The deceased's relatives found no money on the premises and a collection had to be made to bury the Landlord.
His property was inherited by Rev Mr Stowell.
