- A cannon was found in Passage in the new railway line 1847. The cannon was located by N. Lester and his schoolmates. They were digging a hole to make a camp. They saw some brass work and they said it was a cannon. When it was located it was measured and it was found that it was 18 feet long and had an 8 inch bore[?] It was very rusty and its brass was all verdigris. It was reported to the police and they came and they arrested the finders. They removed the cannon to the barrack and they inquired into matters. It was dispatched to London and put into the museum and exhibited many times. The names of the men who found it were engraved[?] in the brass work of the cannon. It can be seen to the present day. It is not like the cannons nowadays. It is of a very old type.
