- Monemohill School is situated about three and a half miles west of Kilcolman parish. This building was not intended to be a school. It was first a barrack. The present back hall was the "black hole" in which the prisoner was kept. The floors of both rooms at that time were flagged. It was later a soup house in which soup was distributed among the people who promised to become Protestant. The people were not allowed to enter the building, but the soup was handed out the window to them. A woman who was employed for making the soup was advised by the parish priest to refuse to work in the soup house. She did not act on his advice and the priest said to her " The shame of the fair on you".Some time later it came to pass that the same woman was in Rathkeale on a fair day and she stole a pair of shoes.
