- At a death bed keep sprinkling holy water over the bed till the person is dead, as the devil is very busy then. When the person dies, leave the room immediately, so that there must be nobody present in the room while the soul is being judged.
Then the corpse is washed and the habit put on. Six candles are left lighting in the room. The neighbours come to the wake, and the Rosary is recited at intervals in the room. Someone should be always in the room, as it is not right to leave a corpse alone. Women usually remain in the room, while the men stay in the kitchen. Tea and drink are given at the wake. Snuff and tobacco and clay pipes were always seen at wakes up to a few years ago, but are not used so frequently now.
