- There is but one fort in the parish. This is situated by the river more than a mile up from the village. It is of the circular earthen type and is surrounded by trees. The local people would on no account cut any part of those trees. If this were done they believe that the person who did "would never have a day's luck".
The people firmly believe that there is a "fairy path" between this fort and the Churchyard in Temple Athea[?] the townland that lies between these two places is called Fairy Street.
