“My grandmother who lives in the townland of Ballylinane...”
My Grandmother who lives in the townland of Ballylinane and in the Parish of Monagea and in the Barony of Glenquin and in the County of Limerick told me the following story of a holy woman named Nellie Doody. She was born in the parish of Tournafulla County Limerick, and spent her early life out working for farmers. She also spent a few years of her life in the parish of Monagea with a brother of hers. She was then known to be very holy by everyone. She was always fasting and praying and visiting holy wells. She often visited holy wells about thirty miles away from her. There is a story told of her, sometime she was on her way to a holy well it was a long journey, but she was lucky enough to be taken up by some motor-driver who was going her way. As she was getting off the motor-car to pay her round at the holy well, the driver told her he could not wait for her, but when she was gone to the well the driver tried to start the car but it would not start and he was still there when she returned, and the moment she sat in the car he had no more(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
