    himself dead and I cannot verify the statement. The two mounds referred to are roughly within a quarter mile of each other and might, indeed, from reading the account of the battle, be considered as representing the burial mounds of the opposing forces.
    Some years ago the mound nearest the Sruthán was being ploughed but in making the first scribe, that is "opening the set" through the centre of the fort-like enclosure, the plough share caught something like a deeply embedded stone, the horses plunged, the plough "kicked" out of the earth and that finished the tillage operations.
    (Michael O Donnell supplied that information. He is 32, reliable intelligent and interested in such matters. He is a natives of Caherduff, Manister.)
    [Margin note]: Thanny Costelloe (76) insists there was a ring embedded in the stone referred here. The plot has not since been tilled. It is nearly a rood in area.
    Mr. O Grady lives in "Fort Elizabeth" a house almost midway between the two forts or mounds, and while I am unable to substantiate it, I believe that the Croker - a parson - who once resided there, and as I am led to believe gave it that name did so to celebrated and perpetuate the victory of the forces of the virgin queen. He flourished about one hundred years ago.
    There is a hazy sort of tradition that a battle was fought in the townland of "Manister South" same parish 6" sheet 31. I cannot identify
