Lysaght arranged with one of his fellows to engage the farmer with some humorous stories, until he, pretending necessity to go out, should return. He returned in the course of a little time and immediately the old man of the house ordered the diggers to bed, advising them of his intention of rousing them early in the morning. When they were called in the morning, it was very high morning indeed; the old man had overslept the mark and the diggers had been lying awake awaiting his summons to get up.
