Oft have I roamed in my own native island
In rich towns and gay cities embellished by art
But dearer to me is that bleak barren highland
Where Nature has charms to play round my heart
Dearer to me than the grand pompous city
To see on the summit the gray morning dawn
Or to listen at eve to the milkmaid's love ditty
Which rings in sweet cadence round sweet Glenbrohane.
Then at Dwyer's or at social Joe Hurley's
To sit for awhile from reflection withdrawn
While sipping with friends whom I never found surly
And sprightly the sons of beloved Glenbrohane.
Farewell lovely village where'er my feet press me
My heart will expand when the tall cliffs I view
Where'er my feet wander my lips shall still bless thee
And likewise my birthplace I sigh for thee too.
How grand are the charms that Nature in sights has
The breast of the bard who fills castles and halls,
Gazing on scenes the which are delightful
(And sprightly the sons of Glenbrohane)
Adieu dearest flower my beloved Glenbrohane.
