On St. Stephen's Day the school boys and girls of the district go from house to house "hunting the ran (wren)".

    did you eat?"
Some years ago Tom Hogan of Boulinlisheen beat the parish when he ate 21 hen-eggs. 2 duck-eggs and to put the "kai-bais" on the story he finished off with a goose-egg. For this great achievement he won a half-ounce of plug then worth 3 1/2d.
Denis Howard, of Anglesboro', Co. Limk. ate 23 hen-eggs one Easter morning. He was confined to bed for a week and never ate an egg since. This custom has come down since the days of the Black Fast. Having fasted so long the people used to make up for it on Easter Sunday morning. This reminds me (William Casey Esq.) of the man who was complaining one day about the price of stout now.
"Yerra begor man," said his companion, "you had a right to drink enough of it when it was only 2d. a pint."
The Easter water is taken home in cans and all the stock on the farm is blessed by the man of the house.
