- Marriages generally take place in this district during Shrove. It was thought unlucky to marry at any other time of the year. The month of May is thought to be unlucky time to be married also the Harvest as the old saying is the “sheaf that is bound in the harvest is sure to be opened in Spring”. There is also an old rhyme about the days.
