“Thurles Fenians were led by a Col. Nolan once of Brittas...”
Thurles Fenians were led by a Col. Nolan once of Brittas who had returned from America to lead. They met at Dwyers COmmons, marched out to Holy Cross, took in empty barracks, then marched on to the Ragg + Drom where they met the Templeman Military. General Gleeson came from America to lead the Annfield, Inch + Borris Men. The pikes were carried to Gortkelly in a cart owned by Mr Burke of Kyle Crew. They went off to Barrane Mt, the meeting place filled it with powder + blew it up as the soldiers in red coats marched up to intercept them. It made a noise + blaze. Thurles College was searched soon after by soldiers looking for Gen. Gleason.
