In Tipperary long ago the day of the wedding was a great day. A great many people of this district used get married on Shrove Tuesday the last day,

The ''Match '' was always made during the Shrovtide; the father of the girl, having settled with the father of the bridegroom, what money or property he was prepared to ''make over'' on her; if all parties were agreeable the ''match'' was '' clinched''.
