There used to be a passkey between these two gates and the public were allowed to use it. But when the people left the gates open when they were coming out the owner put a lock on the gates and ever since they are called the "Lock-key Gates".
On the right hand side as you enter the gate on the Bogganstown road is a big mound which marks the graves of Yoemany who were killed by a party of Irishmen on their way to Tara.
