- There were four or five old houses in Mitchelstown long ago. Some of them fell and some of them were burned. Some of the houses had a bed in the kitchen. The chimney and floor of these houses were made of clay. Some of the houses had no chimneys and the smoke had to go out through a hole in the roof. Most of the houses long ago had half - doors. Some of the people used turf and some of them had wood. The people had candles and rushlights long ago.
