- Buying and Selling used to take place after Mass on Sunday long ago.
When people sold goods it was a custom for the seller to give back some of the money. This money was callsed "lucky penny" and it was supposed to bring good luck to person who got it. This custom is still practised.
When poor people bought goods they paid for them by doing work for the seller. Neighbours used to help each other during the busy seasons.
It was a custom for the shopkeepers to have a broken clock with the word "no tick" written on it. This was a sign that they gave no credit to customers.
