- The Great Famine which occurred during the years 1845 to 1847 caused by the failure potato crop when the people died like flies.
The wet summer of 1845 produced a disease which rotted immence quantities of the potatoes on which the Irish at that time depended upon for food. This caused the famine and a terrible fever followed which wiped out any who survived the famine. Large quantities of Indian corn and other rough food were shipped into the country by the British.
