- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)up which was called Tyrrells Pass. This word Tyrrellspass means the road going through Tyrrell;s place.The castle is built on rising ground on the right hand side of the Tullamore Road. It is a little bit above the the Tore road. It is a square stone building with narrow windows. There is no frames or panes in the windows. There is a flat roof on the castle & it is not a very high building. At the bottom of it , there is a door facing South. Long ago there was a stairs going round the inside of the building but it is broken down now.On the Eastern side of the castle is a house with and it was used long ago for keeping prisoners in. In front of the castle there is a two storied house with about six rooms in it which Mr. Russel owns at present.During the battle of T,>Pass in 1597 the people in the castle must have been very busy. I remember a few years ago Mr. Cummins owned the castle. Mrs Payne tells us that Bernard Morgan, Mr Mc Mullan and Dr. Horridge owned it also.
