- The most harmful weeds growing on meadow land are thistles. They spread very rapidly and take up the place of good grass. Buachallans or ragweed are bad for cattle.
In tillage ground these weeds grow and as well as taking the good out of the soil they smother the crop. Poppies in oats - groundsel, chicken weed, lamb's quarter, (Praiseac) Robin run the hedge. These all join together and are called scutch.
Herbs growing on good land. White, red and purple clover, dandelion, Italian Rye grass, Shaky heads, Rat's tail, Cock's foot, Colt's foot, Black heads (Slanlus) {Bruscán} {Foráns} Rattle box, butter cup, dog daisies.
Weeds growing on ditches or in waste ground. cockle, Meadow-Sweet, Whistler, Wild fire, Cat's eyes.
