- The old people long ago used to make their own soap.
They gathered the green sappy weeds of the garden which they brought in and boiled. When they were well boiled they took them out and bruised them. They next put them in the heat of the sun to bake. By doing this they formed into hard lumps. They called these lumps ash balls. They had to make enough of soap in the Summer that would do them for the winter, because there would be no hot sun in the Winter or no green weeds in the gardens.
Leather Tanning The old people also tanned their own leather. They first skinned a beast. They then put the skin into a tub of water and into the water they put lime and alum to remove hair from(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
