- About eighty years ago there was an old school in the townland of Gaigue in a field belonging now to Mrs Brady. There is some of the old walls there still. The teachers name was Farrell and there were no seats at the time and the pupils used to sit on the clay floor. There were no books only one and they called it a Universal and every word in the English and its meaning was in it. When the children would not know their lessons they would be put up on each others backs and be horsewhipped. There was one big strong fellow and he was very fond of holding them up on his back and when the master went to strike her she took a bite out of his neck and he never held up another after that.
