- No. 54. Legend connected with Clonmines Abbey
A local legend says that when Cromwell's soldiers were marching on Clonmines, the Priests took the sacred vessels and all threasure across in a boat to the other side of the river & buried them in McGrath's marsh. The spot where they lie buried has never been known to be wet in the rainiest seasons. And moreover, the oldest inhabitant says that even in snowstorms this spot remains intact from snow. The spot naturally is held in great reverence by the local people.
A life was lost there many years ago by people who started digging for the treasure.No. 44
