a white figure appeared from the ruins of the church and when it moved a loud jingling was heard. The three with such a grath for the money fled for their lives leaving their tools behind them. One of them was in a fainting condition by the roadside later. They never attempted gold digging again.
There are several raths or lioses in this locality and the "fairyfolk" are supposed to swell in them. There is a rath in Kill Cowan and a number of years ago a man went there to dig for gold. When a few shovelfulls of clay was thrown aside a hen came with chickens and raked it back every time it was taken out. The gold digger fled with terror from the placed but it is said that the mark of where the hole was begun can be still seen. It is remarkable about this rath
