"Let all remember '98 that year of
    Ireland's woes,
When rapine red the land o'er-spread in flame the rooftrees rose,
When Pity shrieked and ruffians wreaked their deadly demons' hate
When pitchcaps clung and tortures wrung strong hearts in '98"

William Roche was born about sixty years ago at Clonogan Clonegal and also studied for the teaching profession but did not follow it up. He wrote some splendid poetry which appeared in local papers and Magazines and principally in the old "Weekly Freeman" he also published a book of verse. He now resides in Dublin where he is connected with a publishing Company I believe "The Veritas"
