Daisy Sinnott Ballybreen Ballindaggin Co. Wexford (from James Sinnott)Long ago people used to make their own baskets at home. About forty years ago a man named Thomas Murphy lived in Coolecarney, Ballindaggin, Co. Wexford and made baskets. At that time farmers used what was called "seedbaskets" for sowing corn. They were long baskets strapped their shoulder. He made these baskets from straw and briars. He put little dulls of straw around in the shape of a baskets and sewed them with a long briar.
Long ago the people made this own candles at home. Every night they had to make enough candles to last for the next night. They boiled fat in a tub and put five or six cords together and they put them on a stick. When they had the fat boiled, the dipped the cords in it and when the fat dried on the cords they dipped them again and and again until they were thick enough. Then they leaved them in some cool place until the next night.- Bailitheoir
