There is a flag bottomed loch where the malt was steeped in preparation for the making. The "still" was operated by an old woman by the name of Judy Flanagan. She was generally as black as the "ace of spades" and she used always sit by the hob and a local nicknamed her "the talking hob". She was a notorious gossip and people returning from Mass used to call in to hear all the latest gossip and regule themselves with a drop of the "mountain dew". A notorious priest-hunter used to call at certain times to this shebeen to get poteen and hear the latest from Judy. In the course of their conversation he gathered the news that the priest was to celebrate Mass on the rock the following Sunday. This man's name was Foster and he lived in Clonjordan in a house which is now he property of William Jordan. He lay in wait for the priest in a lonely glen in Woodlands and fired two shots at him, which however did not take effect as the priest continued on his journey.
