    they made them was they got rushes and peeled them and they melted lard and put 3 or 4 rushes together and dipped them in the dip. Then they left them out to dry. When they were dry they were fit for use.
    Basket- making
    A man named William Greed of Skehana taught Martin Harney, John Fitzpatrick and William Fanning around this district to make baskets. The way they made them was they got thin sallies and hazels and wove them. They then sold them to the people of Shanakill.
    Spinning and Weaving
    My grandmother and Mrs. Keeshan of Shanakill were very good at the spinning and weaving. They sent the wool to mills to be carded and dyed various colours. When it came back they spun it and wove it into cloths and sold it. They had spinning wheels they used about six big needles a foot long.
    Thomas Ledgent of Shanakill was a great weaver
    Thatching
    Richard Grimes of Dromard was a great thatcher. My father (Mick Maher) used to burn lime at home in a pot kiln for a lot of people in Shanakil.

    Candles and Soap
    Candles and Soap used to be made out of the fat of pigs. The candles used to be called Tallow Candles.
