- Monasteroris is situated about a mile from Edenderry. It got its name from a monastery there. A battle was fought there by the Irish and Lord Surrey. There is the remains of a monk’s post-office and the is only one more in Ireland like it. This post office is shaped like a tower and the monks sent messages to other monasteries by the aid of pigeons.
Some time ago a farmer took some stone from it to build his own house. People advised him not to pull it down altogether, in the end he took their advice.
