I very often hear old people, telling stories about the weather. When the sun is watery in the morning, it is a sign, that it would rain before night. "Long fair, long foul". When there is a circle round, the moon, the farther away the circle is from it, the nearer the rain, and the nearer the circle is, the farther the rain. When the sky is clear, and the star's are twinkling, it is the sign of frost. A rainbow in the morn, is the sailor's warning, a rainbow, at night is the sailor's delight." When the wind is whirling 'round, it is another sign of rain. When we see the sheep grazing, very hard together, it is another sign of rain. If we see the seabirds going down to the south it is a sign of bad weather. When we see a cat, or a dog eating grass, it is a sign of rain. If we hear the fox barking, it is a sign of bad weather.
