- Girls and boys in their spare time make toys from walnuts and pieces of cloth. A doll is one toy I often made from a handkerchief I would leave the hankerchief down flat on a table. I would roll up the two long sides until they lay side by side. I would take the farther end of the two rolls and double them over, so that they almost touch the nearer end Then I would bend the nearer end just folded The handkerchief is pressed with one hand and with the other the two corners are pulled downwards. These stand for legs. Then I take out the other two corners and pull them out sideways. These are the two arms. I tie these two latter ends over the mass of handkerchief an inch from the end. I have then a hankerchief doll
