- Churning
We have a churn at home, it is four feet high. The sides are round. The parts of the churn are called the dark, lid and the place to put water. Our churn is six years old. Butter is made twice a week in Summer and once a week in Winter. My mother and sister do the churning and sometimes my father. When we are churning and a stranger came in they would help us and if they did not the luck of the butter would go. The churning lasts half an hour, the churning is done by hand. The dark goes up and down in the middle of the churn. The butter goes together on top of the milk when it is churned. The water is put in to heat it . The butter is lifted up in a tin and strain the milk out of it. then put the butter into a pan and put the salt on it. Then put little tracks on it and sell it. Then the buttermilk is used for making cakes.
