Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Recipes made and used by the Principal's (Kiltegan N.S Co. Wicklow) Grandmother about 100 years ago. The latter kept a herb garden and made numerous cures from the plants growing in it.
    She spun her own flax and wool, and used the materials for her household. The linen into shirts for her men-folk and also into sheets and pillow covers. The wool was made into blankets, (some of which are still used by her above mentioned grand-daugther), and some she knit into socks.
    Burns and Scalds
    Laurel, sage leaves, (2 or 3) daisy roots, buds of elder, mouse ear moss, heart's ease fern, leaves of marsh-mallow. Cut up finely together and boil with lard. Strain , and use when cold.
    Cure for Cows' Udders
    Marsh-mallow leaves boiled in water and the liquid used as a stupe.
