- There are many beliefs in this locality about signs of the weather Some of them are only known in this district, and some of them are universal signs. It is said that if the sun in the winter comes out early it will rain that day; and if there is a ring around the r moon it is the sign of a wind storm. There is a church about four miles from where I live called Killaveney and when you hear the bell it is a sign of rain. There are herds which come down from the hill and when you see them it is a sign of snow. Also when a crane flies up the river it is a sign of fine weather and when he flies down it is a sign of rain. If crows fly low it is also a sign of bad weather. When a cat sits with her back to the fire a snow storm is coming.
