- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There are several rivers and streams flowing from the mountains. The three largest are the Alta-salai, Alta-cams Cladac - "Cladagh" in English. These rivers often overflow and do a lot a damage in taking away hay, turf and sometimes cattle.Salmon come up the rivers from Ballyshannon - forty or fifty miles - to spawn. Trout are plentiful in the rivers too. The people say that when "there's one flood there's always three floods".The nearest lakes are called Brackley and Ardragh. Brackley Lake is beautiful - surrounded on one side by lovely trees and shrubs. It is said that St Patrick passed along the shore of Brackley Lake when on his way to Magh Sleacht where "Crom Cruach" then stood.A good many of the houses have mud walls and forty or fifty years ago very few houses had wooden doors. The doors were made of "sally rods" or wattles and often plastered with mud. They were called Currógs (See note on "Houses")
