- The famine was in Ireland about ninety years ago. The people suffered one hard year of the famine. The blight came in the month of July in about the time the stalks were in blossom. The blight first came in black spots and burned away the stalks. The district at that was thickly populated. When the potato crop failed the people had nothing to live on only half a stone of Parnell's meal for-gain every head in the house.
