When all was ready a man named Tracy from Arva dived down and attached the traces to the handles of the pot of gold. Then they started to pull.
When they had the pot almost beside the cot they heard the children crying in the house. One of the men said "Ah, what ails the children"? We must hurry". and in their haste one of the chains became loose. The pot overturned and all the gold went jingling to the bottom. All the men wanted the diver to go down again but he refused, saying that a ferocious looking beast with glaring eyes were watching below. It is said the pot in which the treasure was, is still on Trinity Island and it is kept watch over by a fierce monster. There was never an attempt made to recover it since.
