- The local fairs are held in the villages and towns. Up to a few years ago the buyers used to transact business in the country at the crossroads and in the farmers' houses. Fairs used to be held at crossroads but this custom has discontinued. Tradition tells us that there were fairs held on the hills. There used to be fairs held on a hill in this locality.in olden times fairs used to be held in the old ruins of cemeteries and in old castles. There used to be fairs held in forts. It is said that fairies used to guard the cattle. Fairs are not held in the streets nowadays they are held in a fair-green. Toll is paid on cattle sold but not in County Cavan. Toll is paid to rollers sixpence per head(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
