Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Forges in this district is not near so common as they were long ago. There is only one blacksmith in the whole area now. Edward Lynch is his name. His father before him was a blacksmith but his grandfather was a nailer by trade.
    About fifty years ago there were four forges. One belonged to Paddy Dick Nudgent[?] Castlerahan. Another to James Farrell Cormeen.
    Paddy Kelly Clonkeefy, and the present man's father Bernard Lynch owned the fourth.
    These forges were all on bye-roads and near streams. They are all built with lime and sand and had a wooden roof covered with black felt. The doors all ran on wheels and were the whole width of the gable.
    The fire was raised above the ground having a stone water trough in front which was always full of water to cool the irons.
    The bellows was fixed behind the fire.
    These smiths all shod horses and asses. They also repaired farm implements. Paddy Dick made iron gates and James Farrell made ploughs. The wheels were shod in the open air,
