- There are five forges in this parish. The smiths are Chambers, Johnston, Mc Coey, Reilly and Kiernan.
Chamber's forge is beside Billis Church. Johnston's is at the Billis Bridge, Mc Coeys is at Capponagh cross, Kiernan's forge is beside the Main Street, Virginia and Reilly's is beside the New Street, Virginia.
Mc Coeys forge has a thatched roof, and Kiernan's forge has a roof made out of sheet-iron. The doors are of no special shapes, but Reilly's forge has windows in the shape of diamonds. There is one fireplace in each of the forges. The bellows are made of wood and leather and have a steel point on them, they are not made locally.
The smith uses a hammer, an anvil, nails, a tub of water to cool the iron and a fire.
The smiths shoe horses and asses but they do not shoe cattle.
They also make farm implements such as, harrows, ploughs, spades,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
